Ada is a second-generation resident in West Goshen, who is concerned about the performance of all children in the District, especially our at-risk children in Region 1 and throughout the District. A Hispanic mother of two children in the District, Ada has seen firsthand the impacts of school closures on her own children, one with special needs, and also on the rest of our community. She is motivated to run for School Board after reviewing data that showed how poorly all of our students were performing, but specifically how our already at-risk community was doing and how many children were failing and falling between the cracks.
While Ada’s primary motivation to run for School Board was born from the school closures, she has developed a set of key issues that she will address if elected. Additionally, it should be noted, that the incumbent, Joyce Chester, voted no three different times over the last eight months to open schools. While Ms. Chester may have good intentions, her votes have shown that she is not committed to fully reopening schools for those families who want a full 5 day in-person experience. Most recently, Ms. Chester voted no at the February 22, 2021, School Board meeting to not fully reopen schools in March. The motion to open schools passed by a vote of 7 to 2 with Ms. Chester voting no.
